If they can spend $100,000 to digitally remove Ashton Kucher's red string Kaballah bracelet from his scenes in "Guess Who," don't you think they could have spent a few bucks on some makeup to cover up Heath Ledger's pierced ear lobe in "Brokeback Mountain"? Don't know of many ranch hands in 1963 who had pierced ears.
My thoughts on the film to follow. Too tired right now.

Yeah, Jack Black with the pierced ear in "King Kong," too, although Lumpy the Cook does have an earring (but he is a shipmate, going for the pirate look).
And, as I pointed out on my blog Saturday: "In the 1930s, during The Great Depression, many poor people wore expensive, not-yet-invented contact lenses."
Absolutely right - you know, I always stare at actors' eyeballs when they are in closeup to see if I can see the edges of the lens. (Especially if it's a boring scene.) And I usually can.
You would think, wouldn't you?
Just how many gay cowboys are there let alone cowboys with ear piercings?
Hmmmm... I think there are more gay cowboys than you think, and I imagine as many straight ones have earrings as men in any other profession do nowadays.
My point was merely that men in 1963 didn't often have pierced ears - and someone who grew up in rural Wyoming during that time would be very unlikely to.
